What is your name?

Granny...tell me what you picture when you hear the word "Granny".  I am guessing it is not a word you would use to describe yourself. Yes, perhaps your own grandmother or maybe even your great-grandmother.  Do you envision a sweet, white (or blue) haired lady, small round glasses with a strong scent of Rosewater perfume? Maybe one with hair rollers and dentures? That was the picture in my head!

I certainly didn't know what I wanted to be called when I became a "grandma" at the age of 44.  I am confident there are first-time grandmas out there that are younger than I the day they are born to that status. It is even likely the majority of grandmas are a little older. When my daughters asked what I wanted to be called,  I couldn't find a word that fit.  What about Grandma, Grandmother, Grandmom, MeMa, or Oma? Nothing seemed to fit until...until my first grandchild blessed with me the name of Nana. It may have been my son-in-law's choice or daughter's. I'd heard it before but nothing matches the magical sound that rang in my ears and melted my heart as the first time it was spoken.

What do your grandchildren call you?
